In
chapter eight of his book Carr discusses Google and how it has been expanding itself
over the years. Everyone knows what Google is and most people use it regularly,
whether it’s for academic purposes or just out of curiosity. And with Google’s more recent
changes and additions, such as Google Books or Google Plus, more and more people
will begin using it. The popular company seems to be attempting to take over the internet. It
wants to make itself the number one go-to site fore everything.
Google's new features include its version of a
social networking site called Google Plus. Google Plus looks very much like the old
version of Facebook. You can write on people's walls and be a "fan" of celebrities
just like on Facebook. As Google further develops its new social networking
branch I think it will try to become more and more similar to the current
popular sites, until it becomes the go-to networking site.
Its other features such a Google Books, Google Music, Google Translate, and Google News help Google on its way to becoming everyone's
go-to site. Now people can just go to Google instead of the library, or other
popular news websites. I believe Google's ultimate goal is to completely nullify the
need for other websites and make itself the most used site on the
Internet.
