Google-it

In class, we talked about Google and how they are slowly taking over the Internet. I think that this statement is kind of true. As of right now, Google can link with different accounts, like YouTube, yahoo, Facebook, etc. You can buy/read books on Google. You can search for different website all across the world, search for just phrases of a book or a lyric from a song, and you will have the name of the song/book, the chapter it’s in, and the rest of the paragraph in about 30 seconds. Google is definitely the most widely used website. I know that every time I need to research something, or look something up for my own interest, I type it in to Google first before anything. I get results quicker and they are most often accurate.  Finding things out on Google has now turned into a very; “Google-it.” I “Google-it” before I do anything.
As for Google putting books for people to read online, I think it is a smart idea as long as they give the copyright and part of the profits to the authors. Google is an all access website, and to have access to full length books through Google will help people with not just free reading, but with research as well. It is so much easier to research a book for specifically what you want when you have a filter. For instance, if I’m looking for a specific part in a book I’ve already read, it takes me forever because I have to remember where that part of the book is, what chapter it’s in, where in the chapter it is, and the skim through until I find it. If the book was online, all I would have to do is hit “ctr/command-F” and a search bar will open up. I can type in what quote I’m looking for and it will bring me right to it. That can take maybe a total of 30 seconds, rather than the couple of minutes it would take me to search through my book.
Google is a website that I don’t think will ever die. In fact, it will probably soon control the entire Internet. Things like “Yahoo” and “Bing” may be somewhat popular, but they have nothing compared to Google. All I have to say it, just Google-it.

  1. Liz, Google books to me is a great tool. Especially for the research paper that we have to do for this class, using this feature of Google makes the process easier. Having the online ability really helps out when trying to find a specific quote or section of the book rather than trying to remember where in the book you read that part. I think Google will always remain a huge part of our Internet use and that they will expand one day to control most aspects of the world wide web. -Shane Murphy
